Concrete Slab on Ground Insulation
To achieve a high thermal performance for concrete floors, it is recommended to incorporate high levels of Insulation. Choosing the right product for under slab insulation and slab edge insulation can be vital to ensure that your building meets or exceeds all requirements set out in the NCC. The most common form of concrete slab insulation used in Australian buildings is Extruded Polystyrene Insulation (XPS) due to its high thermal performance, superior compressive strength and exceptional moisture resistant properties.
UnderSlab Insulation
Insulating the ground slab or under concrete slab with extruded polystyrene insulation (XPS) is essential to restrict the transfer of heat in summer and cold in winter. This will serve as a thermal barrier between the ground (earth) and the inside of a building.
Slab Edge Insulation
Insulating the perimeter or exposed vertical edge of slab with extruded polystyrene insulation (XPS) is essential to protect the building from extreme heat loss and gain and ensure optimal thermal performance of the building.
