Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. Where can InsulSlab be used?
Insulslab is designed to provide thermal protection to the pad areas of residential concrete slab on ground construction and other general applications.
2. Is Insulslab compliant to Australian standards?
Yes. Insulslab is not only BCA compliant but also meets the following Australian and International Standards – AS/NZ 4859.1, ASTM-C518, AS-1366.3, AS-2498.3
3. Is Insulslab environmentally friendly?
Yes. Insulslab contains no ozone-depleting substances and is manufactured without any CFC, HSCF of HFC gases. Manufacturing of Insulslab is a low emission process that uses steam produced from water and natural gas as its main energy source. Insulsab provides energy savings for the life of the building which will more than offset the energy consumed to produce it.
4. Can Insulslab be used on a slab edge?
Due to its closed-cell structure, Insulslab is resistant to moisture however it is not impervious, so it is not suitable to be installed on slab edges. For slab edge thermal protection, XPS rigid panels are recommended. You can find out more about suitable XPS insulation product here.
5. Is Insulslab durable?
Insulslab has a compressive stress rating of 70 kPa and a cross breaking strength of 135 kPa making it a durable product. It is vermin proof, and its closed-cell structure makes it resistant to moisture, further increasing its durability.
6. Should Insulslab be installed underneath or on top of the slab moisture barrier?
Due to its closed-cell structure, Insulslab is resistant to moisture however it is not impervious so should be installed on top of the waterproof membrane.
7. Can Insulslab be used under load bearing walls?
Insulslab is designed to thermally protect the distributed load areas of concrete slabs so can be installed under the general pad areas of concrete slab on ground construction. Please enquire regarding higher compression rated insulation products suitable to be installed under load bearing walls, beams and point loading areas.
8. Is Insulslab the best product for slab on ground insulation?
Insulslab is by far the most cost-effective insulation product for slab on ground construction. Please enquire if your project requires a higher rated product. Or you can find more information on alternative slab on ground insulation products here.
